The Perfect Pink Milk Latte Recipe with Beetroot Powder, Cinnamon & Ginger

Indulge in a cozy cup of caffeine-free beetroot pink milk latte – not only is it pretty, it’s healthy, creamy, and incredibly delicious.

Even though its the shortest month of the year, February can feel interminably long and frigid. When the weather is snowy and cold, I love to have a warm drink to wrap my fingers around. If you’re a tea girly like me, or maybe you just want a break from coffee, you’ll definitely want to try your hand at making a pink milk latte. It’s great for afternoons when you need a little boost of energy but don’t want any caffeine. Beetroot powder (and beets) have been shown to increase blood flow and oxygen within the body, while also lowering blood pressure – and bonus, beetroot powder won’t disrupt your sleep like black tea or an espresso would.

For this simple recipe, you’ll need beetroot powder plus a few spices that you probably have leftover from your holiday season baking.

Spices for the Latte Mix

In this recipe, I’ll be using cinnamon, ginger, ground cloves, all spice, and nutmeg. You can also use any warming spices like coriander, turmeric, star anise, or even black pepper. Experiment and see which mix you like the best! First, we’ll be making a dry mix of spices and beetroot powder, and then we’ll add that mix to milk for our latte.

You’ll need just one of these tools

Milk frother

Saucepan

Once you create your latte mix, the next step is to combine it with warm milk. You can use a trusty saucepan to warm your milk or a milk frother. I like my Breville Electric Milk Frother, but when I don’t feel like fussing with it, I’ll sometimes pull out a saucepan. Both work just as fine.

Ingredients you’ll need for the dry latte mix

  • 1/2 cup beetroot powder
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp all spice
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves

Ingredients you’ll need for the latte drink

  • milk
  • 1 tbsp dry pink latte mix
  • maple syrup or your sweetener of choice (optional)
  • pinch of salt (optional)

Step by Step Instructions with Photos

How to make the dry latte mix

Step 1: Add the beetroot powder to a medium-sized bowl. Beet powder is very fine and will rise up in teeny puffs if you pour it out directly from the packaging it comes from. I like to use a spoon to scoop out the beet powder and fill the measuring cup before slowly tipping it into the bowl. After you add your beet powder, add your ground spices. Mix carefully with spoon until thoroughly combined.

Quick tip

This dry latte mix uses a lot of cinnamon – 2 tbsp. If your jar of ground cinnamon is nearly done, you may want to purchase another jar to ensure you have enough for this recipe.

Step 2: Add your latte mix to a jar. You may want to label it with the name and date so you don’t forget what’s in there.

How to make the perfect pink milk latte

Step 1: Warm your milk of choice. If using a saucepan, add the milk to the pan.
Whisk continually in a pan over medium heat until warmed through. Do not let burn. If using an electric frother, add the milk to frother, and let it heat up for about a minute before moving onto the next step.

Quick Tip

This latte tastes great with both dairy and non-dairy milk. If you prefer vegan options, oat milk makes for a creamy latte. If you love dairy, I recommend using whole milk for a full-bodied latte. My favorite milk to use is whole A2/A2 milk, which is easy on my sensitive stomach.

Step 2: Add 1 tablespoon of pink latte mix to the pan. Whisk until thoroughly incorporated. If using an electric frother, add your tablespoon of mix after the milk has heated up for about a minute. Beets can stain, so be very careful during this step. You may want to wear an apron.

Step 3: Add maple syrup or sweetener of choice if desired (optional). I usually add a teaspoon (or two 😇) of maple syrup. I also like to add a pinch of salt to boost the flavor, but that’s optional.

Step 4: Pour into mug, and you are all done!

Enjoy!
